Alleima Expands Nuclear Capacity: Meeting Growing Demand for Conventional and Advanced Reactors (2026)

Alleima, a Swedish nuclear energy company, is expanding its production capacity to meet the growing demand for nuclear power. The inauguration of the Tube Mill 2026 production facility in Sandviken, Sweden, marks a significant milestone for the company as it prepares to cater to the needs of both conventional and small and advanced reactors. This expansion includes the upgrade and reopening of the steam generator tube production facility, which has been closed for 10 years.

The new facility increases Alleima's capacity by 60%, enabling the company to strengthen its position as a leading supplier of high-technology products in the nuclear industry. CEO Göran Björkman emphasized the importance of this upgrade in meeting the growing demand within the nuclear segment, particularly for small modular reactors (SMRs). He highlighted Alleima's involvement in delivering contracts for SMRs and its collaboration with advanced modular reactor developers, showcasing its versatility in handling different technologies such as helium, lead, sodium, and molten salt.

Carl von Schantz, President of the Tube Division, underscored the significance of Alleima's investment in research and development. He explained that the company's focus on R&D ensures that it can provide the right materials for the tubes, enabling the construction of advanced reactors with various cooling methods and technologies. Von Schantz also noted the global reach of Alleima's customers, emphasizing the company's reliability and long-term partnership approach.

The inauguration of the facility was attended by prominent companies in the nuclear industry, including Doosan Enerbility, NuScale Power, Rolls-Royce SMR, and Westinghouse. Alleima's extensive experience in the nuclear energy supply chain, dating back more than 60 years, positions it as a trusted supplier of steam generator tubes, nuclear fuel cladding tubes, and other nuclear-grade components. The company has a proven track record of supplying tube bundles to over 400 steam generators in more than 20 countries, as well as over 60,000,000 meters of nuclear fuel tubes to more than 100 reactors.

In my opinion, Alleima's strategic expansion and commitment to research and development are crucial for the future of nuclear energy. The company's ability to adapt to different technologies and cater to the evolving needs of the industry is commendable. As the world seeks sustainable and reliable energy sources, companies like Alleima play a vital role in driving innovation and ensuring the safety and efficiency of nuclear power plants.
